Brody

Brody is one of the most handsome fellas that we have seen. He is 1.5 years old and about 37 lbs. He is tall and lean. As a young teenager, Brody has a lot of fun and energy, but he is also happy to settle for an afternoon nap or evening movie. He would love to have an active playmate who doesn’t mind some roughhousing and a good game of chase a couple times a day, interspersed with a fair amount of napping.

Brody has been with a couple different homes in his short life, the first was a young family who wasn’t ready for his energy with small kids. The folks that rescued him from that situation were nearly perfect, but Brody was really not nice to the cats. For all of these reasons, we think Brody will be best in a home that has only adults and maybe some nearly adult children who can be tuned into his play style and training needs. No cats or young kids and perhaps one or two other canine companions for play and confidence building. A fenced yard is absolutely required since yard play is the most stress-free form of exercise for him.

In his most recent foster home, Brody has been great with dogs of all ages and sizes, testing every one of them to become his playmate, but backing off if they aren’t interested. He loves yard and house play time. In his second home, the family did a lot of neighborhood walks. This is where Brody will need some continued work. He is a bit anxious on leash outside of the house and is leash reactive with other dogs and especially small children. Moving cars, bikes, runners…if you have had many shelties, you know that stuff, right? Because he is a larger dog, he is very strong and he is going to need continued positive training to become a little less sensitive to out-in-public situations. He has responded well to a front clip harness, but should have ongoing training.

Brody is completely house trained, neutered and up to date on all vaccinations as well as flea, tick and heartworm meds. He sleeps though the night and can clearly tell you when he needs to go out. He has a bit of a sensitive GI tract, so it will be important to stay on a pretty regular diet of quality food and treats. He loves toys of all types. While he hasn’t mastered fetch yet, it could be a fun yard game in his future as he already seems to love playing with balls in the house. He likes to be on furniture and a sofa where he can watch out the window would be just ideal for him.
